Goal Sports Representative Side 09/10
Saturday 7th November 2009 vs Scarborough and District U'11s
Goal Sports picked their first representative team to compete against an accomplished Scarborough team who had been in training since late July. The score of 4-0 flattered Scarborough as Goal Sports let in 3 goals in the final period after some great Goal Sports football.
The first third ended 0-0 with Goal Sports easing their way into the game and actually getting to know each other! Scarborough had crashed a strike off the crossbar and looked the most dangerous to break the deadlock.
By the end of the first third the boys obviously grew in confidence as they realised the could be more than a match for the talented Scarborough side and began playing some great football and looking much more comfortable on the ball, and actually wanting it!
At half time Goal Sports introduced James Twinn, Alistair Jacques, Keir Smith and goalkeeper Liam Fearnley, changing things around a bit. Scarborough came at Goal Sports from the off and had two great opportunities which they squandered when well placed. Liam Fearnley in goal made a couple of brilliant saves and really showed what a great goalkeeper he has become with some top handling and quick distribution skills. Just like the first period the boys got used to their positions and turned on the style with some quick short sharp passing and made some good opportunities, most noteably a super move which released Sam Pallant clear on goal only for a horrendous bobble to take away his chance.
Joseph Leslie then turned greyhound as he ran a full 40 yards from midfield down the left, leaving 3/4 Scarborough players in his wake and set up another Goal Sports chance. With about five minutes to go in the first half the Scarborough left back cut inside and hit a cross/shot from 18 yards which flew into he top right corner and put Boro one up. It was a shame as Goal Sports were looking the most likely to score.
The final third saw Goal Sports shuffle the pack again and giving some of the young players an opportunity to show their stuff in their favoured positions. Some of the tackles in the centre of the park, most noteably from Isaac Ward and Tom Whitfield were outstanding with the referee at the end of the game applauding the skill of the Goal Sports lads as they really got stuck in and won the ball time after time. Ward and Whitfield must of won 20 tackles just between them!
Keir Smith, Hayden Javeleau and again Leslie constantly troubled the Scarborough back line with their trickery and ability to dribble at pace. The sucker punch came as Scarborough were quickest to react in the box and they punished the makeshift Goal Sports defence with 3 further goals in quick succession. It must be noted that the Goal Sports boys never gave up and kept pressing for a goal of their own, which they definately deserved.
Final Score - Scarborough 4 v 0 Goal Sports
Man of the Match - Tom Whitfield for a tireless display in Midfield and Defence. A special mention must go to Alistair Jacques who pushed him hard and admitted after the game he had never played in a competitive match before, yet it didnt show as he was outstanding at the back!
The Squad - Jack Gibson, Liam Fearnley, Keir Smith, Jack Martindale, Tom Whitfield, Connor Finch, Harry Davis, Matty Phillips, Harry Iveson, James Twinn, Isaac Ward, Joseph Leslie, Hayden Javeleau, Sam Pallant, Alistair Jacques.
